Basal body temperature is the body’s temperature upon waking in the morning.  If taken consistently, at the same time each day, and before getting out of bed, patterns can be noted which indicate that ovulation has occurred.  A digital basal thermometer is the most accurate for taking the basal temperature.  From menstruation until ovulation, the basal body temperature will stay within a certain low range, usually between 97.3 F and 97.7 F.  It may vary for some women, but will usually stay within a small range.  Once ovulation has occurred, there is a thermal shift to the upper range of 97.8-98.5 or so.  This is called the luteal phase.  The luteal phase lasts for 10-12 days in each cycle.

It turns out that having a kid isn’t exactly like you would expect. Don’t get me wrong – I am still happy that I have a child. It is really good for me to be able to deal with other fathers, sharing our concerns and our understanding about how to raise a child.

Favorite Childrens Book

Reading is very important, and we all wand a childrens book that has a simple and good story..

I think she is ready for more complex stories. I want to find a childrens book that has a lot of chapters but is geared towards girls her age. I want something that we can read a little of each night before bed, but not something we will finish right away. I want to find a childrens book that has a simple story that she can understand and remember from night to night, but one complex enough to stretch her imagination as we read through it. Reading is very important to me, and I want it to be important to her too.

Kids are getting older..

 

Now that my daughter is getting older, the same old childrens book is just not cutting it. She has a few that she loves to hear over and over again, but she has started to read them back to me. She can’t really read yet, but she has heard them so many times that she can recite them back to me word for word. It think it is about time to get her some new books, and I think I will get them one a time until we have a great collection to look forward to.

All children like something different!

There are many friends who have suggested their favorite childrens book to me, so I am going to take that list and see what I can find. All children like something different, so I will probably go with the childrens book that she seems to be the most interested in. I will simply show her two or three of them and let her make the final choice. I think that way she will be more excited about starting the book. Quite often when children have a choice in the matter they feel more in charge, and they are then more interested. This has helped me in many things, and I think it will work just as well in getting her interested in newer books.

It quite hard to find the right book!

I will look for her first childrens book at our local bookstore, but I don’t know how hard it will be to find the right one. I remember reading the Trixie Beldon series when I was young, but I’m not sure if she is old enough to handle the length and depth of those stories just yet. Trixie may have to wait a few years, but I do think I will get her that series when she is reading on her own. For right now, perhaps I will find a childrens book that stands on its own and is not part of a series for simplicity sake.

Geography For Kids, Have Fun And Learn New Things!

The choice of geographic region is up to you. You may want to choose your home state, your county or the entire United States. When deciding, you’ll want to include a wide mix of geographic elements if possible. If you choose a region which has rivers, lakes, mountains, seashore and grasslands, the kids will get a good concept of the many variations of geographic areas. For example, a region such as the Northwest, the South or a state such as California are diverse enough to be representative, while being a manageable project scope.

Teaching kids involves a lot of creativity for successful learning. At the grade school level, subjects in the field of science can fail to grab the attention of a youngster, simply due to the poor presentation of the topic. Geography is one subject that is well suited to modeling. Here are a couple of projects that are terrific lessons in geography for kids, inspiring enthusiasm with a hands-on art project. Kids get to team up at a table and create three dimensional maps that show a bird’s eye view of any geographic region you may choose. Once the kids have completed either of these projects, they’ll have a firm grasp of the principles of geography and may likely be wanting to know more.

What is required ?

Now you’re ready to purchase the supplies you’ll need. Get a piece of plain masonite approximately 24 x 48 inches. You’ll also need modeling clay, a set of acrylic paints, brushes and a map of your region from the U.S. Geographic Service. Craft aprons are a good idea. O.K. Class time!

Don’t be picky…..

Try not to be too picky on precise placement. The main point is to show geographic variances. When the kids have the geographic elements placed in a fair representation of your map, it’s time to get out the paint.

Give the kids a basic visual tour.

Use the map to show the kids how you read the map, where hilly and mountainous areas show the contours of elevations. Explain how to find lakes and rivers. Give the kids a basic visual tour. Let them know how they are going to translate this map into a 3-D picture with modeling clay and then paint their map. Let them get their modeling clay and go for it! You can use craft sticks to put scores in mountains and rivers to demonstrate the unevenness of actual terrain and moving water.

Another variation on this kids geography lesson is depicting cross-sections of geographic elements. Sandstone cliffs, the earth’s crust or volcanic areas are excellent geography for kids projects, showing the layers of clay, shale, granite and other materials. You can have lot of fun and you and your kids will benefit and spend some good time together and learn new things.
